Bingo!
The one and only specific vote has been cast! I am glad somebody in this club can come to a decision because I obviously cannot (hence the three options). Oh, and no, I haven't read any of them but wanted to do when each first came out, then never got around to doing so.
So, ladies (are there any gents in this club, AJWP?), it's "Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight". Yay!
I guess we need some sort of schedule or plan or something regarding how we want to break this down and handle discussions and so forth. Oh, and for future reference for the next book-picker, I found this groovy link o' book lists, which came in handy. (At first I thought it was some religious site --Christchurch?--if I'm going to be much use to anyone, I need to learn not just to read but to comprehend, eh?)
How long does everyone need to pick this puppy (!) up and get started? I have no idea how long it is.

Yay--our first book! I'm psyched.
Hashbrown's in Vegas for a conference all this week, so she'll need a little time to get acclimated before starting to read. Wanna give it a couple of weeks? What do you think?
PS--No gents yet.
PPS--Thanks for the link!
*coughs*
Errr, hyia all, hope I'm not intruding! :)
Canada told me about your book club, and I was interested, so, here I am.
I can pick up the book tonight, I just checked the availability online and the local bookstores have loads of them.
Speaking of book clubs, you might be interested in reading (just for your own pleasure, I mean) "The Reading Group : A Novel, by Elizabeth Noble". I read it recently and although it's a novel, the author sure has packed a lot of insight on women's sometimes conflicted/mostly always steadfast friendships and life/inner life in general in that book (without making it smarmy or anything). I look forward to reading her other novels. :)
Hey Muse, do you want to be listed as a contributor? If so, is your email address listed on your webpage?
Sure thing! My email is
muse dot urbaine
(change the dot for an actual . and add a @ and a gmail.com) :)
Hey, Musey! (wave)
Hi PK!
I got the book yesterday, and I've read a few pages in the metro already. :)
Yeah, um, I have to see if it's at the library and then I have to get a library card. If not, I'll pick it up at a bookstore in town. :)
JEN-NY!
:)
FYI
Having dyslexia, sometimes I read very slowly. So don't wait for me to finish the book to discuss it. It could take weeks.
Hashbrown's and my copy will be in tomorrow from the inter-library loan program. I can't wait to start reading!
Got it, reading it - about halfway through.
Hey, Hash, there's an unabridged audio version--would that be a useful substitution? My library is out of copies so I got it instead, figuring I'd start with it until I could either get a copy (or decide I liked it enough for my cheap ass to buy it). If it's unabridged, same as the book.
Just an update--we picked up the book last night and I've started reading.
I'M A LOSER I DON'T HAVE IT YET. Sorry. I will get it though.
Update from our end: I've finished reading and Petunia is starting to read.
I'm finished, too. And Lola's reading my library copy (I ended up buying it because there was a wait that I guess wasn't as long as they thought)
I would love to join this online book club.
As a librarian, I applaud your picking an older book. I have had to commiserate with so many unhappy book club members after they discovered that their club selection is unavailable in any of the 54 libraries in Nassau County (Long Island, NY) because it is too new.
Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight is readily available in hardcover, paperback, large print, and unabridged recorded books.
Hey Mary Jo, welcome! I'll be sending you an email momentarily with instructions for joining the book club. We're glad to have you!
